Service / Commissioning Engineer

Due to an increasing work load, we have a vacancy for a Service / Commissioning Engineer to join our team.

Our product range includes motor control and switchgear for 415V / 3.3KV / 6.6KV / 11KV systems, PLC, SCADA, Automation Systems, Crane Control Systems, AC drives and complete equipment packages which may consist of several of the mentioned products. 

We design and install our products thoughout the UK and internationally.  The majority of the work is UK based, but there may be a requirement to travel overseas as the need arises.

Candidates which have experience with Medium Voltage Systems, 3.3KV / 6.6KV / 11KV, will have a distinct advantage as much of our work involves this type of product.  Medium / High Voltage Switching certification would also be useful, but training can and will be provided for the right candidate.

Setting up and commissioning protection relays (Micom, GE Multilin and similar) would be a useful skill to have as our equipment often includes this type of device.

Familiarity with PLC control systems would also be useful as we often provide complete systems, which may include PLC and SCADA packages.  Commonly used PLC's are Rockwell Control Logix, SLC 500, Siemens S7, Ge Fanuc and Scnheider.

Reporting to the Technical Director, the position is initially based in our Bedford Office, but due to the nature of the role, you will often be travelling striaght from home to site. 

You will often be working alone but it may be necessary to work with one of our existing engineers or installation technicians, this will be determined by the nature and content of the contract being worked on.  As the title states, you will be servicing and commissioning our equipment, but it is likely that you may also be involved in trraining of our client's personnel on our new equipment.  Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and ensuring that they are completely happy and confident with our products is an essential part of this job.

As you would expect, this position offers a company car, mobile telephone, laptop computer and the salary is very competitive, and negotiable, depending on skills and experience.

The company also operates a profit-related bonus scheme (subject to company performance).

ESTIMATING AND TENDERING ENGINEER.

With a good forward order book, and increasing enquiries, we have a vacancy for Sales Estimating and Tendering Engineers.

Our product range includes motor control and switchgear for 415V / 3.3KV / 6.6KV / 11KV systems, PLC, SCADA, Automation Systems, Crane Control Systems, AC drives and equipment packages which may consist of several of the mentioned products.

Ideally we are looking for candidates with an Electrical Engineering background and experience in one of more of these fields. This position will particularly suit an Engineer wishing to move into a Sales environment.

Reporting to the Sales Director, the position is based in our air conditioned Bedford Office and involves:

•  Interpreting client requirements, 

• Selecting suitable products, 

• Producing estimates and detailed tenders.

• Supporting our Account Managers.

You will often be required to liase with our clients to ensure that the technical content of the estimates are correct.  Our sales engineers and technical department are also available for advice & support when required.

We use Microsoft Windows packages for preparation of quotations and for storage of enquiries and quotes.  Familiarity with MS Word, Excel & Access would be useful. 

Although not essential, the ability to use AutoCAD or Visio would be beneficial too as these are sometimes used in the preparation of outline drawings to accompany our proposals.

Salary is negotiable depending on skills and experience.

APPLICATIONS/DESIGN ENGINEER.

Due to continued growth and our success rate in turning quotations into orders we have a vacancy within our technical department for an Applications Engineer dealing with the motor control/switchgear side of our offering. The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:-

• Interpreting client specifications and requirements in conjunction with sales    department quotation. 

• Liase with client and attend site meetings as necessary. 

• Produce schematic diagrams on our CAD system and issue to client for approval.

• Engineer detailed designs of motor control gear/switchgear using standard building blocks/components.

• Produce component schedules and instruction note sheets.

• Specify and order bought-out equipment.

• Produce co-ordination curves, protection settings and calculations as required.

• Prepare descriptions of operations if required.

• Be aware of relevent standards and practises within the electrical engineering industry and the Health and Safety at Work Act.

• Be prepared to attend various training courses as and when required.

• Liase with shop floor, test, installation and commissioning departments as required.

We are looking for people with a sound knowledge of application engineering in the motor control gear/switchgear industry, either in LV or MV with recognised formal qualifications and/or relevant experience. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & Access and CAD systems are required. 

Salary is negotiable depending on knowledge and experience. A profit based bonus scheme is in operation and the annual holiday allowance is 25 days.

Bedford is close to Junction 13 of the M1, we are within commuting distance of towns such as Milton Keynes, Northampton, Luton even North London.  There is also a direct train service from London as Bedford is the last stop on the Kings Cross / Thameslink line, which is now managed by First Capital Connect.
